What does SMS mean?

SMS is acronym for Simple Message Service.

How do I send a message?

When logged in to Alpaka, click on SMS in the navigation, then click 'Send SMS'.

How long can my messages be?

Are all of my customer's mobile phones able to receive text messages?

SMS is a basic feature on all mobile phones and is available through all mobile operator networks.

How much does each text message cost?

Are there any set up charges?

There are no set up charges or contract. Alpaka SMS is a pay as you go appointment reminder service. You are free to cancel your subscription at any time.

If I have any questions or need help setting up do you offer support?

Can I schedule messages to be sent?

Yes, you can schedule messages, to be sent at the time and date of your choosing. Template messages can be set to be repeated daily, weekly, monthly or annually. Click here for our 'SMS Templates' lesson.

What happens if I make an appointment, there is a mistake and I need to change some details?

There is a 10 minute delay on sending SMS. So if you have made a mistake, there is a 10 minute window to make a change before the SMS is sent to the recipient.

What happens to reminders if I run out of message credits?

Appointments can be made in your schedule but you will need to either purchase a TopUp Pack to be able to send text messages or wait until the 5th of the following month when your subscription will be renewed. Email reminders are free.

How can I prevent my customers receiving text messages in the middle of the night? Won't it annoy them?

For exactly that reason! Messages can be scheduled to be sent at any time of day, however it is recommended you not send automated text messages in the middle of the night. Template messages can be set to send in the morning, afternoon or evening, minutes, hours, days, weeks, months or years before or after an event.

Can I send text reminders only and not email, or vice versa?

Yes, it is completely up to you how you remind your customers/clients with SMS or email only or both.

Can my customers reply to text messages?

Yes, Alpaka SMS is a two-way messaging service. Receiving replies to messages is free. We recommend that you encourage a two-way conversation with your customers so that they receive a personalised experience.
